In “the rise of the mongols,” a short film and accompanying photo series by the london-based artist Catherine Hyland, another Mongolian identity is captured through a unique lens: as a sumo wrestler. In a statement on the project, helan said Mongolia’s success in sumo was closely linked to the country’s history.
“Wrestling is part of the national character and is linked to genghis khan,” she explained. Mongolia’s nomadic culture contributed to the success of the country’s wrestlers.
