After a brief modeling career as a teenager, Johanna Stickland’s life was back to a fairly prosaic rhythm. She moved from Calgary to a small town in Portugal , and now she is a photographer and painter.
Ms. Stickland likes to shoot candid and emotional portraits of women in intimate Settings, with people she meets or makes friends with. Stickland’s subjects are often bathed in natural light, expressing a range of emotions with a single look.
Speaking of his work, Stickland said: “these pictures don’t have to tell a specific story, they have to be presented as fragments, the way you remember someone in your mind… Women have a lot of inner mystery and emotion that interests me.
